Texas State is set to hire Justin Owens as its general manager, sources tell Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. Owens, who joined the North Texas staff as Director of Recruiting in December of 2022, served as running backs coach, special teams coordinator, and recruiting coordinator at Ferris High School in 2021 and 2022. He has more than 15 years of high school coaching and evaluation experience.
A Dallas native known in the football community as “Coach O”, he played at Cisco Junior College before transferring to West Texas A&M before graduating in 2004. Owens spent his first few years as a coach at Spruce High School before joining the staff at Dallas Madison in 2009. He’s also spent time at Kimball High School and Prime Prep.
Owens joins G.J. Kinne and the Bobcats as Texas State enters the 2025 campaign. Kinne has led the Bobcats to eight wins in both of his two seasons in charge, winning the First Responder Bowl at the end of each season.
