Burleson ISD made it official on Monday night at its March Board Meeting by promoting defensive coordinator Blake Meyer as the second ever head football coach at Burleson Centennial High School.

Meyer replaces Kyle Geller, who, in early February, was promoted to BISD assistant athletic director; Geller started the program in 2010 when the school opened.

Meyer was part of a Centennial staff under Geller that’s posted 11 straight playoff appearances, six bi-district titles, three trips to the regional finals and a trip to the regional final at the 5A-Division I level in 2022.

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Blake Meyer as the new Athletic Coordinator and Head Football Coach at Centennial High School," BISD Athletic Director Kevin Ozee stated in a press release. Coach Meyer has been an integral part of our athletic program for over a decade, demonstrating exceptional leadership, dedication, and a deep commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the field. Blake is deeply respected by his players and the community. He has been Coach Geller's right-hand man and will continue to build on CHS’s success. His vision for our program aligns perfectly with our core values, and we are confident that, under his leadership, Centennial athletics will continue to succeed."

Burleson Centennial posted a 5-6 record a year ago, but made the playoffs falling in a close 48-42 double overtime loss to Georgetown, a game in which the Spartans nearly rallied from an early 28-0 hole.

"This is a dream come true,” said Meyer in the BISD release. “I would like to thank the hiring committee and Coach Ozee for putting their trust in me. Thank you Dr. Jimerson and the Board of Trustee, not only for this opportunity, but for all that they do to make Burleson ISD a special place. I would also like to thank Coach Geller for his leadership, which has helped guide and prepare me for this next chapter. I am excited to add to the great legacy that we have built here at Centennial. Most of all I am excited to lead such a great group of young men. I couldn’t ask for a better team to coach. They are what makes Centennial special, and I am proud to be their coach.”

Coach Meyer’s squad competes in the tough 7-5A Division I that features state runner-up Highland Park along with Red Oak, Midlothian, Tyler and Johnson County rivals Joshua and Cleburne.
