Early Friday, Kerrville Tivy athletic director/head football coach David Jones announced his resignation after leading the Antlers program for the past thirteen seasons. Carl Padilla of the Padilla Poll first reported the news

Jones currently holds an impressive 129-72 record as a head coach, "We've got great kids here at Tivy, "it is a great community to live in and raise a family. I'm blessed beyond measure to have had the opportunity to work with great coaches and families. 'Tivy Fight Never Dies' is a real thing," Jones said he would stay in an administrative role to assist with the transition.

Jones began his coaching career in Louisiana and then moved over to Oklahoma before jumping into Texas as an assistant coach at Allen under Todd Graham after a stint as an assistant coach at Jersey Village. Jones, in 2007, was tabbed to be the first-ever head coach at Cy Woods High School.

The Wildcats had immediate success under Jones, posting an 8-3 record in year one, and then in 2009 and 2010, Cy Woods posted back-to-back trips to the regional finals in Class 6A-Division I.

Jones, in 2012, headed out to the Hill Country, taking over at Tivy, where in thirteen seasons, he led the Antlers to the playoffs ten times and posted five seasons of at least ten wins, including a trip to the regional finals in 2014.

Expect Tivy to get plenty of interest, as it would not be a surprise to see 200+ applicants for this attractive opening where the Antlers bring back a lot of young talent from a playoff team in 2024. Tivy also lies on the low end of the 5A-Division II enrollment spectrum and could be a candidate to move to Class 4A in the next UIL Realignment cycle if the cutoff from 4A to 5A jumps up.
