Corpus Christi Calallen (4-1) at Sinton (5-0):
After a surprising loss to Corpus Christi Carroll, Calallen bounced back nicely last week with a solid 29-7 win over Rockport-Fulton. Injuries have been a concern for first-year head coach Charlie Reeve, but the Wildcats got QB Sebastian Dennis back and the Wildcats defense was stout in the win over Rockport’s Pirates.
Now Calallen must deal with another set of Pirates from Sinton, who comes into this one brimming with confidence after they took down powerhouse Corpus Christi Miller, 23-16.
Sinton’s defense played lights out and the offense was balanced rushing for 222 yards, while WR Jacoby James hauled in five passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns; James also had an interception.
Both defensive units come into this one playing at a high-level, but the key for Sinton is its dynamic playmakers on offense in James, RB Derek Garcia and QB Triston Handson. That helps SHS close out non-district play undefeated.
