Nate Markiewicz’s last name carries as much weight at McKinney North as his physically imposing 6-foot-5, 240-pound frame.

Before Nate was the first-team all-district tight end fielding multiple Division I football offers, his brothers were leading the Bulldogs’ 2019 team to their first outright district title in school history. Dillon, a quarterback, earned District MVP honors after tossing for over 4,000 yards and a school-record 45 touchdowns before signing to play at Syracuse. Austin, a center, was a first-team all-district selection, snapping to his twin in the shotgun. The two are now reunited at Texas State.

For most Nate’s age, this period of college recruitment holds uncharted waters. But his brothers have navigated them before, and they’ve instilled in Nate all the advice he needs to conquer them as well.

“Trust the process,” Markiewicz said. “When you don’t feel like people are watching you, trust your instinct and don’t worry about anything. It’ll happen.”

Markiewicz’s polished game at tight end is a product of his family. After years of running routes at home for his quarterback brother, he can line up at Upback or even split out wide and catch any ball on the route tree. Then, he can get down in a three-point stance and channel Austin’s aggression and technique as a run blocker for McKinney North’s 2,183-yard rusher, Jayden Walker.

The colleges have noticed this versatility. In a four-day period from May 8-11, Markiewicz got offers from Arkansas State, UTSA and Memphis. He plans to take an official visit to each of those schools, and while he’s nowhere near a final decision yet, Jeff Traylor’s staff at UTSA is already sticking out to him.

“I had a spring game Wednesday and basically their whole offensive coaching staff texted me ‘Good luck,’” Markiewicz said. “That’s the thing; I want to feel wanted going into a program. I feel wanted from them. Everything they’ve got going on with a winning team, I want to be a part of something like that.”

For now, Markiewicz is focused on a senior season that could be special for McKinney North. While the Bulldogs are still trying to find the right rotation to replace their entire offensive line, the skill positions are chock-full of intriguing returners. Quarterback Colin Hitchcock is back for his third year at the helm, and 2022 Offensive Newcomer of the Year Kam Powell pairs nicely with Markiewicz at wide receiver.
