Blake Shapen is the starting quarterback for the Baylor Bears heading into the 2023 season, head coach Dave Aranda announced to the media on Tuesday morning.

Shapen threw for 2,709 yards and 18 touchdowns to 10 interceptions as a redshirt sophomore in 2022. He was named honorable mention All-Big 12 after averaging 214.6 yards passing a game. He added 96 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Shapen won the job over Mississippi State transfer Sawyer Robertson.

Baylor went 6-7 in 2022. Shapen started twice as a redshirt freshman in 2021, including the Big 12 title game. He set the championship game record with 17-straight completions in the first half.
