In a move that surprised no one in the Texas Panhandle, Canadian ISD announced that long-time defensive coordinator Andy Cavalier has been promoted to become the next head football coach at Canadian High School.

He'll replace Chris Koetting, who announced his retirement two weeks ago. The hiring was first reported by Kale Steed of PressPass Sports.

Cavalier, a native of Pampa, played under his father Dennis Cavalier, a panhandle legend in his own right as the elder Cavalier turned Pampa into a consistent winner during his 16-year run. He played his college ball at Eastern New Mexico and he has had head coaching experience as he spent three seasons as the head coach at Pampa.

Cavalier has spent time as an assistant at Amarillo Tascosa, Midland and Eastland and he’s spent the past nine seasons as the defensive coordinator at Canadian. He takes over a team in Canadian that enters the 2023 season with state title aspirations as Canadian returns 11 total starters and 17 total lettermen.
