In a letter to parents and Richardson ISD, Richardson Lake Highlands head coach Lonnie Jordan announced he was stepping down from his post to become the new athletic director for Highland Park ISD, which, ironically, is in the same district as Lake Highlands.

He replaces Rodney Webb, who stepped down as the district athletic director after one season to become the head coach at Rockwall-Heath.

Jordan has spent the past eight seasons at Lake Highlands posting an impressive 55-35 overall record, with the high-water mark coming in 2021 when the Wildcats posted a 10-2 record. Jordan led Lake Highlands to the area playoffs twice. LHHS posted an unbeaten regular season in 2020, but was upset in the first round of the playoffs.

He spent one year as a head coach at Class 3A Lone Oak in 2014 where he posted a 9-2 mark, giving him a career head coaching record of 64-37. Prior to his time at Lone Oak, Jordan spent four seasons as an assistant at McKinney High and before that was an assistant at Lake Highlands.

Lake Highlands has long been considered the premier head coaching job in Richardson ISD and the last time the job opened RISD had 180 applicants. They may not get that type of interest this late in the offseason cycle, but there’s no doubt if this job opens, Richardson ISD Athletic Director Leslie Slovak will be combing through plenty of applicants.
