In a bit of a surprise move on Monday Crosby athletic director/head coach Jerry Prieto has resigned his post after four highly successful seasons in which he posted a 36-17 overall record, he led the Cougars to the 2020 Class 5A-Division II state title game and a state semifinal appearance in 2021. He finishes his tenure at Crosby with a 36-17 overall record.

Prieto, who came to Crosby after a stint as the offensive coordinator at Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial in his first season posted a 6-5 mark in 2019 and then in 2020 behind one of the state’s most explosive offensive attacks made a run all the way to the state championship game before falling to Aledo.

In the summer edition of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football for 2021, Prieto was named a DCTF “40 Under 40” head coach as one of the state’s top head coaches under the age of 40.

Crosby followed up that stellar 2020 season with a 12-3 mark in 2021 advancing to the state semifinals in Class 5A-Division II, falling to Liberty Hill in a state semifinal rematch from 2020, Prieto was named the Houston Touchdown Club’s Coach of the Year for the 2021 season.

Crosby, who moved up to Class 5A-Division I in the 2022 UIL Realignment and made the playoffs is expected to begin the search for Prieto’s replacement immediately.
