Frisco offensive coordinator Blake Yancey was named the next athletic director/head football coach at Whitewright High School, on Monday.

He replaces Kevin Wiggins, who resigned in March.

“I really like the small town setting," Yancey said. "I’ve enjoyed Frisco, but being a small town guy I kind of yearned to get to a small town, especially for my first head coaching job. Whitewright has got some tradition and they’ve done a great job in investing in the kids in Whitewright and the vision at Whitewright aligns with my vision as a coach and athletic director."

Yancey is a 22-year coaching veteran and native of Terrell. He played collegiately at Texas A&M-Commerce before beginning his coaching career in his hometown of Terrell. Yancey also coached at the middle school level in Allen ISD before moving east where he was an assistant at Canton at the varsity level.

Coach Yancey spent seven seasons on staff at McKinney Boyd where he helped start that program up. He spent one season on staff at North Forney before coming to Sherman where he spent one season as the Bearcats offensive coordinator. Yancey then moved to Frisco where he’s spent the past nine seasons as the Raccoons offensive coordinator.

Yancey is well thought of in the area as he’s helped innovate and modernize Frisco’s Wing-T offense with some spread principles and it has resulted in big success as Frisco has posted double digit wins in 2019 and 2021.

He said the decision wasn’t easy.

“I am going to definitely miss a great bunch of guys at Frisco," Yancey said. "It’s hard to leave something that’s really good and what we’ve helped grow. I’ve enjoyed the challenge of keeping the program at the top with all the growth in Frisco ISD. I’ve got a lot of great memories and it’s bittersweet to leave. But I am so excited to get to work with the athletes and community in Whitewright.”
