Sherman head coach and assistant athletic director Cory Cain told his team on Friday afternoon that he was resigning his post after two seasons and an 8-12 overall record.

He is expected to finish the school year out with his assistant athletic director responsibilities however.

Cain spent the previous 15 seasons on staff at Allen where he was part of five state title teams, many of those seasons as the Eagles defensive coordinator. Prior to Allen, Coach Cain was an assistant coach at Wichita Falls Hirschi, Kaufman and Red Oak.

Sherman ISD athletic director Jeff Cordell is expected to begin the search for Cain’s replacement immediately. This is a vital hire for Sherman, which has recently made some facility upgrades on campus and they have a bond issue coming up that includes a vote for a new on-campus football stadium.

Due to the growth of Sherman, it could move up to Class 6A in the next UIL Realignment.
