Denton Braswell head coach Cody Moore announced to his team on Thursday afternoon that he was stepping down as the Bengals head coach after eight years, including seven varsity seasons as he started the program back in 2015.

Moore, who was an assistant at Rockwall High was named Braswell’s first ever head coach in 2015 and after an initial season playing a sub-varsity schedule, the Bengals joined the UIL ranks in 2016.

As with many new programs, Braswell struggled initially winning just five games in their first three seasons, but in 2019 Braswell broke through with a 9-3 record and a trip to the Class 5A-Division II area playoffs. Braswell made the rare leap from 5A-Division II to Class 6A in the 2020 UIL Realignment and although the Bengals haven’t made the playoffs they’ve proven to be more than competitive at the 6A level in one of the state’s toughest districts with 5-5 records in 2020 and 2021 before stumbling to a 3-7 mark in 2022.

“We are sad to leave this family but are excited about what’s ahead, to all the coaches who have been part of the process over the years, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your hard work and investment in our players,” Moore said in a statement released on social media. Moore stated he was leaving Braswell at this time to pursue other opportunities.

Denton ISD will likely begin the search for a new head coach immediately at Braswell which is in attractive location and in an attractive and vibrant school district that’s had plenty of success in football, Denton ISD also this past summer completed a beautiful on campus stadium for Braswell to play their home games in, so there’s no question this job will generate interest.
