UTRGV head coach Travis Bush is quickly putting together his coaching staff ahead of the Vaqueros first recruiting class in 2024. Bush has named Brian Gamble as defensive coordinator. UTRGV is also adding Adrian McDonald to its coaching staff, as earlier reported.

Gamble arrives in the Rio Grande Valley after spending the last two seasons as linebackers coach at Texas State. Before joining the Bobcats staff, he was linebackers coach at Louisiana Tech following a 10-year run at UIW as defensive line coach before being named the Cardinals defensive coordinator in 2012.

A native of Alto, Gamble began his coaching career at Kilgore in 2004 before joining Houston’s coaching staff for two years. Gamble was a standout as a player at Texas A&M, earning Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors and was on the Butkus Award watch list in 2002.

McDonald spent his previous two years at MSU after two seasons as a graduate assistant under Zac Spatival at Texas State. McDonald played defensive back for Spatival at Houston and was a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award while twice earning All-American Athletic Conference honors with the Cougars. He set a school record with 17 career interceptions before signing as an undrafted free agent with the Los Angeles Chargers.
