Pending board approval Wednesday evening, Midland Greenwood will name Abilene Wylie defensive coordinator Bryan Hill as the Rangers next athletic director/head football coach. He'll replace Rusty Purser, who stepped down in late January.

“Greenwood has a great reputation," he said. "They have been very competitive in all sports. They are West Texas kids so you know they are hungry and want success. I’m confident we have a chance to be successful in every sport from junior high up to the high school. This isn’t a rebuild in any sport the foundation is set and now its our job to build on it."

Hill, who is a native of Llano and graduate of the University of Texas, has spent much of his time in college football before coming to Texas high school football in 2020. As a student, Hill worked in the video department with the Longhorns football team. Upon graduation, Hill went to Plainview where he worked as a graduate assistant for two years with the start-up football program at Wayland Baptist University.

He then spent two seasons as a grad assistant at Midwestern State University before moving to the University of Texas in 2015 with then head coach Charlie Strong. After the 2016 season, Hill went to South Florida with Strong where he spent three years, two seasons in Quality Control and then in 2019 he was hired full-time as the safeties coach.

After a staff change in early 2020 and with the Covid-19 pandemic in progress, Hill made the decision to return home to Texas where he landed at Abilene Wylie as the defensive coordinator.

“I’m so grateful for Coach (Clay) Martin to give me a shot to call the defense," Hill said. "I can’t say enough about his mentorship and give me a shot to find my footing as a coach. When I got here, Coach Sandifer had just retired and Coach Martin was just promoted to head coach. He had called the defense for a long time and for him to give me a shot to let me call the defense and grow as a coach says a ton about him as a leader."
