Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has confirmed that Tulane linebackers coach Michael Mutz will be the next defensive coordinator in Nacogdoches. Mutz spent the last seven years with the Green Wave and has a history of coaching in Texas.

Mutz was twice a Sam Houston coaching staff member, serving as defensive line coach in 2004-2005, and returned to Huntsville for the 2013 season as defensive backs coach. He was the defensive coordinator at Blinn in 2012 before leaving for the Bearkats.

A native of San Antonio, Mutz has loyal to Tulane coach Willie Fritz and has been on a coaching staff with Fritz for the last 10 seasons, including one at Sam Houston and two at Georgia Southern before heading to Tulane.

Mutz will be the third defensive coordinator for the Lumberjacks in the last three years. The two previous defensive coordinators, Scott Power and Joe Cauthen, have left SFA for jobs in the FBS at Louisiana Tech and Utah State, respectively

Football Scoop was the first to report the addition of Mutz at SFA.
