In a bit of a surprise move on Wednesday afternoon Taylor ISD announced athletic director/head football coach Brandon Houston would be taking a different role within Taylor ISD.

Coach Houston has led the Ducks for the past two seasons and posted an 8-13 overall record, a far cry from when he took over the program as Taylor entered the 2021 season mired in a 21-game losing streak. The Ducks posted a 5-6 mark in 2022 and advanced to the Class 4A-Division I playoffs.

The news was broken today via an email statement sent out to Taylor ISD staff by THS principal Matt Wamble and it included a questionnaire asking for specific qualities and values the district should seek out as they look for Houston’s replacement.

Coach Houston currently has an overall record as a head coach of 40-19 in five seasons, three at Buffalo and the last two at Taylor. Taylor becomes the second notable Austin area job to open in the past two days as Round Rock High opened up yesterday with Jeff Cheatham’s promotion to Round Rock ISD Athletic Director.
