Round Rock ISD has named Round Rock High head coach Jeff Cheatham as its next athletic director where he'll replace Dwayne Weirich, who had been in the role since the fall of 2013 and retired in December.

Coach Cheatham, a native of Rogers, steps down after a strong 13-year run leading the Dragons where he posted an 86-60 record. He led RRHS to a regional final appearance in 2016; he had two seasons of double digit wins and led Round Rock to the playoffs 10 times.

Cheatham has 23 seasons of head coaching experience with an overall record of 143-111. He spent 2000-2009 as the head coach at Salado.

He'll take over the athletic operations of a district that features five Class 6A high schools.

“We had a lot of success at Round Rock because we have great kids and a great community, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to now help the entire district and be able to impact more coaches and kids,” Cheatham said.

There is no update at this time on the current situation at Round Rock High, but sources indicate the job will be posted soon and statewide interest in the position is expected.
