Canyon offensive coordinator Billy Rushing has been named the next athletic director/head football coach at Stanton High School where he'll replace Cody Hogan, who moved into administration earlier this offseason.

Rushing, who has been at Canyon the last 20 years as an assistant and spent the last two seasons as the Eagles offensive coordinator, has never coached anywhere else.

“I got hired in Canyon out of college and have loved it here ever since," he said. "It was going to take something special for me to leave."

Rushing, who graduated from Jacksboro High School, is actually a native of the Texas Panhandle spending his early years in Pampa. He played collegiately at Howard Payne University for former TXHSFB head coach Vance Gibson.

“When I went down to visit and listened to the administration and I heard what they felt was needed I felt like it was a great fit," Rushing said. "We want to love kids through the successes and failures and we want to be successful in all sports. I didn’t have a ton of expectations as the interview process began, but during the process it all just clicked and it felt like it was the right place to be."
