Olney Head Coach Jody Guy Resigns

Olney head coach Jody Guy on Friday announced that he will be resigning his post as athletic director/head football coach. Olney ISD has filled the athletic director position already as former head coach Gunter Rodriguez who is now an OISD administrator is taking role, while the district has posted the job opening for head football coach.

Guy who has been a head coach for 18 seasons with stops at Petersburg, Roby, Shamrock and finally at Olney where he may have done his finest coaching job turning around a program that had lost 59 of 60 games between 2012 and 2017.

In Guy’s first two years Olney won just two games, but staring in 2020, the Cubs began playing a much better brand of football going 5-5 in 2020, 6-6 in 2021 and 7-4 in 2022. In 2021, Olney earned their first playoff victory since 2000.

“I’m not sure what I want to do just yet,” Coach Guy told Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, “if the right opportunity comes along I may still coach, but I may decide to do something else, we’ll just have to see.”
