After just two seasons at the helm at Simms Bowie, head coach Shawn Wells announced his resignation on Thursday. Wells told Dave Campbell’s Texas Football he and his family were moving back to the Houston area where he coached previously at Conroe Oak Ridge before landing the job at the 2A school in Northeast Texas.

After posting a 5-5 mark in Wells’ first season at the helm the Pirates bounced back in 2022 posting an impressive 9-3 overall record and advancing to the 2A-Division II regional semifinals before falling to eventual state runner-up Mart on Thanksgiving weekend.

Coach Wells tells DCTF he currently does not have a job lined up at the moment, but he says the Bowie job will be attractive as ten starters return on offense and nine are back on the defensive side of the ball.
