Victoria ISD on Thursday evening named just the third football coach in the history of Victoria East High School as New Caney offensive coordinator Charlie Reeve was approved by the board to lead the Titans program.

Reeve, a native of Victoria and graduate of Victoria High School, replaces Roland Gonzalez who announced his retirement from coaching shortly after the end of the playoffs, Gonzalez had led the Titans program since 2012. Reeve has spent eighteen seasons in coaching with stops at New Caney, Cuero, Odessa Permian, Bay City and Katy Seven Lakes.

Coach Reeve also brings plenty of college experience to the table as he served as an assistant at Texas State, UTSA and Houston Baptist (now Houston Christian), he was an analyst on staff at Houston for a year and he served as a grad assistant on staff at Rice.

Reeve, who has worked for his brother New Caney head coach Travis Reeve the past three seasons has helped guide New Caney to success since arriving in suburban Houston as the Eagles won a district championship in 2022, posting a 10-1 record.  Reeve’s father Mark Reeve is a well-known coach in his own right with 183 wins to his credit in eighteen seasons of head coaching at the high school level.

Reeve was also a pretty good player back in his day as he played quarterback at Pearl River (Miss.) Community College from 2000-01, leading the nation in passing and total offense, enroute to earning NJCAA first-team all-America and Region XIII Player of the Year honors as a sophomore. "God has blessed me so much in my coaching career, I've coached with my Dad, Brother and Nephew and now I get to come back to my hometown and lead a program. I think Victoria East has all the pieces in place to be a great program and I'm excited to get started," said Coach Reeve.
