Texas Tech is set to hire Baylor assistant Justin Johnson as the next wide receiver coach and assistant head coach, a source confirms to DCTF. Johnson was an assistant alongside Texas Tech head coach Joey McGuire for a couple of seasons in Waco. Johnson coached the Bears running backs since 2020, one of the strengths of the offense. He also had stints at Texas A&M and Houston. Johnson replaces Emmett Jones, who took the wide receiver coach and passing game coordinator gig at Oklahoma.

First reported by FootballScoop. Johnson was a 2022 member of DCTF's 40 under 40 list in the summer magazine. A native of Richardson, Johnson was a multiple-year lettermen at Houston and an all-conference first-team selection in 2011.
