After more than three decades at the helm of the Lorena Leopards, coach Ray Biles is retiring, the coach confirmed to Dave Campbell's Texas Football.

"It's a good time for me to step away and do something else," Biles told Texas Football. "Lorena has been wonderful to me and my family and I appreciate all they've done for us. But now is a good time for me to do something else and maybe stick my toes in the sand a little bit."

Biles steps away after 31 years of coaching — all at Lorena — with a 207-141 record, eight district championships and 17 playoff appearances. But it was his Leopards' magical run to the 2021 3A Division I state championship that will be his most memorable season, not the least reason that it represented his 200th career victory.

Biles is one of just 23 coaches in UIL Texas high school football history to coach 30 years at a single school. With 207 wins since taking over in 1992, Biles ranks 84th among all UIL Texas high school football coaches in career wins.

Sources tell Texas Football that Lorena ISD intends to move quickly in its search. Stay with TexasFootball.com for the latest.
