Sources tell DCTF that Sam Houston and head football coach K.C. Keeler are set to agree on an extension that will keep the two-time FCS national champion in Huntsville for the foreseeable future. Keeler is 259-98-1 in his head coaching career and is the only person in FCS history to win a national championship with two different teams. He did it first at his alma mater, Delaware, back in 2003 and with Sam Houston in the spring of 2021.

Keeler was among a trio of coaches that were finalists for the Texas State job that eventually went to G.J. Kinne. His name was also mentioned as a possibility at the current opening at North Texas. Instead of moving on, Keeler is prepared to drive the Bearkats into a new world of FBS football in Conference USA. He’s never coached at that level. Keeler is 85-27 in nine seasons in charge of Sam Houston. The Bearkats won four conference titles and recorded double-digit wins in six of those nine seasons.
