David Bailiff won’t return as head football coach at Texas A&M-Commerce, Dave Campbell’s Texas Football confirmed on Tuesday night. The long-time figure in college football across the Lone Star State was 23-13 in three seasons in charge of the Lions. Commerce was 5-6 in 2022 and 3-3 in Southland play during a transition year into the FCS ranks.

Commerce is expected to announce the decision next week. Bailiff arrived in Commerce prior to the 2019 season. The Lions went 11-3 and finished second in the Lone Star Conference. After not fielding a team in 2020, Commerce was 7-4 and second once again in the LSC in 2021. Bailiff spent 11 seasons at Rice after coaching his alma mater, Texas State, for three years beginning in 2004. Bailiff is 101-108 all-time as a head coach.
