The Texas A&M passing attack was dealt a critical blow over the weekend when leading receiver Ainias Smith was ruled out for the rest of the 2022 season with a broken leg. The senior suffered that injury in the win over Arkansas on Saturday night in Arlington when a defender rolled up the back of his leg while Smith was blocking. Smith was Texas A&M’s leading receiver in 2022 with 15 catches for 291 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

The Aggies righted the ship with two straight wins following a Week 2 loss to App State. Jimbo Fisher replaced Haynes King at quarterback with veteran Max Johnson. The offense hasn’t passed for over 200 yards in the last two games, but Johnson avoided throwing in interception in both wins. With Smith out, true freshman such as wide receiver Evan Stewart and tight end Donovan Green must expand their roles.
