A source confirmed that Texas A&M plans to start LSU transfer Max Johnson ahead of Haynes King on Saturday when the Miami Hurricanes visit Kyle Field for an 8 p.m. kickoff on ESPN. The Aggies are 1-1 on the season following a 17-14 loss at home to Sun Belt Conference contender App State. The Texas A&M offense came under fire following the defeat in which King was 13 of 20 for 97 yards. The passing attack didn't account for any points against App State. The only touchdowns were scored by Devon Achane. King has started four games in his career at Texas A&M, and he's thrown for as many interceptions (5) as touchdowns in that span.

Johnson transferred to Texas A&M following the 2021 season thanks to a coaching change in Baton Rouge. He started all 12 games last season, including a win over the Aggies. The junior threw for 2,815 yards and 27 touchdowns while completing 60 percent of his passes. He started twice as a freshman in 2020.
