UPDATE: Texas A&M-Commerce has released its depth chart ahead of the Lions trip to Sam Houston on Saturday. Eric Rodriguez is listed as the starting quarterback, with Texas A&M-Kingsville transfer Zadock Dinkelmann listed as the backup quarterback. Dinkelmann completed 76-of-135 passes for 842 yards and four touchdowns for the Javelinas in 2021.

Dave Campbell’s Texas Football has confirmed that Texas A&M-Commerce quarterback Jagger LaRoe has left the football program.

LaRoe transferred to the Lions from Ohio State during the offseason and saw action in both games this season. LaRoe completed 7-of-14 passes for 57 yards in limited action after being replaced by Eric Rodriguez in the season opener against Lincoln (Calif.).

The Colleyville native did not start against Tennessee Tech last week and entered during the third quarter when Rodriguez left due to an injury.

This leaves the Lions thin at quarterback ahead of a game against the 2020 national champions, Sam Houston. If Rodriguez cannot play against the Bearkats, A&M-Commerce could turn to Jaiave Magalei, who completed 66-of-114 passes for 696 yards with nine touchdowns and four interceptions in 11 games last year for the Lions.

Freshmen Tyson Oliver from Royse City and Berkner High School product Thomas Landry are the only other quarterbacks on the roster. One of them will be forced into action if Rodriguez and Magalei do not play.
