Dumas (1-1) at Perryton (1-1): After a disappointing Week 1 loss to Lubbock Cooper, Dumas got back on track in a big way last week as the Demons defense dominated in a 34-7 win over Lubbock Estacado. DHS allowed just 184 yards of offense, while QB Emmanuel Ibanez threw for 123 yards and two touchdowns and led Dumas with 103 yards rushing on 14 carries. Perryton after an impressive season opening win struggled to contain an explosive Canyon offense in a 49-27 defeat. The Rangers secondary was shredded to the tune of six touchdown passes. Perryton is tough to beat at home, but this Dumas team is mentally tough and defense always travels well. Stepp’s Pick: Dumas by 13

Wichita Falls Hirschi (2-0) at Springtown (1-1): It’s an old district rematch moved to non-district this season as Hirschi looks to knock off Springtown for the third straight time. These two met twice last year, with the Huskies winning both meetings, including a lopsided win in the regional finals. Hirschi last week needed overtime to escape Brock in a 37-30 win as SMU commit WR Jamarion Carroll hauled in seven passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns and USC commit A’Marion Peterson ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns lead the Huskies. Springtown bounced back nicely after a surprising season opening loss to Alvarado with a solid win of their own knocking off Graham 35-13. QB Hudson Hulett threw for 214 yards and four touchdowns and added another touchdown on the ground and Springtown’s red zone defense was outstanding, four times stopping Graham without points in the red zone. Springtown is solid and will push this veteran and talented Hirschi squad at home, but Hirschi’s playmakers are too much and that’s the difference in this one. Stepp’s Pick: Wichita Falls Hirschi by 12

Bellville (2-0) at Navasota (2-0): No one is all that surprised Bellville is unbeaten after two games, but the Brahmas level of dominance has been quite impressive, especially last week’s 55-0 rout of a solid Stafford squad. Navasota on the other hand is a bit of surprise at 2-0 and with the strong start, Rattlers fans are hoping NHS can get back into the mix as a contender in Class 4A. For Bellville it was domination from the start as the Brahmas spread the ball around to perfection in the blowout win, DD Murray hauled in a touchdown pass and had a touchdown run for Bellville in the easy win. Navasota needed overtime to get the job done as the Rattlers held off Madisonville 27-21. RB Deontray Scott ran for 72 yards and two touchdowns and also hauled in an 81-yard touchdown reception to lead NHS, his eleven yard touchdown run in overtime proved to be the difference for Navasota in the win. Bellville’s dominance a week ago was eye-opening and this appears a team more than capable of making noise with a good young group of skill talent, Navasota is improved but Bellville may be a bit too much. Stepp’s Pick: Bellville by 8

Cisco (2-0) at Breckenridge (2-0): It’s a showdown in the Big Country of unbeatens as Cisco heads east to take on surprising Breckenridge. Cisco and Wall played their annual rock fight game and this time the Loboes came out on top 18-14. It was classic Cisco-Wall, physical defense, lots of tough running and it was close. Trent Huston ran for two touchdowns to lead Cisco and the CHS defense held Wall to just 199 yards of offense. Breckenridge went on the road to Fair Park Stadium and drilled a really good Division II Childress squad 35-8. Breckenridge was led by their defense which held Childress to just 232 yards of offense. QB Chase Lehr threw two touchdowns, while Anson Rodgers returned a punt for a touchdown and added in a touchdown on the ground as well. The concern for Cisco going into this matchup with an explosive Breckenridge squad is the Lobos only had 175 yards of offense and they are jumping up two divisions to play a 3A-Division I team. Breckenridge’s size and depth wears the Loboes down in this one. Stepp’s Pick: Breckenridge by 11

Diboll (1-1) at Franklin (2-0): Diboll bounced back nicely from a blowout loss in the season opener to Madisonville as the Lumberjacks got back on track with a 33-24 win over Kirbyville. Diboll got the running game going as they raced out to a 19-0 lead and held off a late Kirbyville rally to get the win. Many were wondering if something was wrong with Franklin after a close win over Woodville to open the season, but those questions were answered two-fold last week as Woodville proved they are a force beating Newton, while Franklin got the offense rolling to a 77-13 win over Mexia. Several Lions got in on the act in the win as Jayden Jackson ran for 193 yards and two touchdowns on just eight carries, while Bubba Jackson had 85 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries. Franklin’s got the offense on track and that could mean trouble for Diboll who may not have the firepower to keep pace. Stepp’s Pick: Franklin by 14

Refugio (1-1) at Edna (2-0): After getting dominated by Hitchcock in the season opener, Refugio bounced back nicely with a 39-6 win. Kaleb Brown found the end zone twice in the win and Ernest Campbell flashed his world class speed with a kickoff return for a touchdown. Edna made a major statement on their own as the Cowboys took down 4A-Division I Bay City 27-21. Edna didn’t play the cleanest game, but they feasted on five Bay City turnovers and they were able to hang on and get the win. WR Floyd Ragston hauled in seven passes for 156 yards and a pair of touchdowns to lead the Edna offense. Edna’s a similar team to Hitchcock, they may not be as dynamic at the skill spots, but they are probably a bit better up front, this is a true 3A regional contender and they have the weaponry to take down Refugio. Stepp’s Pick: Edna by 10

Early (1-1) at Comanche (2-0): Early, who had some high expectations heading into the season is fresh off a disappointing 51-14 loss to Tolar, while Comanche is flying high after a surprising start with back-to-back blowout wins over Brady and Bangs. Early’s biggest problem in the loss to Tolar was five turnovers and their inability to run the football as they ran for just 30 yards on the night. Comanche was led by sophomore Sawyer Wilkinson who ran for 274 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-18 win over Bangs last week. I expect Early to bounce back this week in a big way and get a hard-fought win over a much-improved Comanche squad. Stepp’s Pick: Early by 3

Idalou (2-0) at Holliday (2-0): It’s a top ten matchup in 3A-Division II as unbeaten Idalou heads east to Texoma to take on a Holliday squad that is playing at an extremely high level at the moment. Idalou held off a tough challenge in a rivalry game beating New Deal 14-9. QB William Wall accounted for 202 yards of offense and a touchdown on the ground to lead the Wildcats in the win, Idalou’s defense was stellar allowing just 158 yards of offense in the game. Holliday rolled past Jim Ned 41-19 last week as Peyton Marchand threw for 182 yards and two touchdowns, while the Holliday ground game continued to be as solid as ever. Holliday’s got too much firepower and this has the look of a statement type win from the Eagles. Stepp’s Pick: Holliday by 14
