Four Texas programs – more than any other state in the country – were ranked inside the top 25 of the first USA Today Coach’s Poll of the 2022 college football season. That's 25 percent of the FBS programs in Texas represented on the list. Texas A&M was the top team ranked at seventh. Baylor – the defending Big 12 champs – checked in at 10th. The Texas Longhorns sit in 18th, while Houston – in its last year as a G5 program – took the 25th spot. No other state had more than two teams ranked.

The usual suspects sit atop the rankings. Alabama was awarded the top spot with 54 first place votes. Ohio State is ranked second and earned five first place votes. Reigning champion Georgia is third in the poll and second to Alabama with six first place votes. Clemson and Notre Dame round out the top five.
