DeSoto 2023 WR Johntay Cook II (6'0, 170) committed to Texas over offers from Michigan and Oregon.

Cook is rated as the No. 1 WR in the state, checking in as No. 4 overall prospect in the state.

Scouting Report: Has the speed to run by defenders and displays quick-footed ability to dodge defenders in the open field. Fluid and skilled, Cook is a proven playmaker for one of the state's top programs. He is a shifty versatile threat with the speed and route-running ability to create separation downfield quickly. He produces at a high level. The DCTF four-star scored on 50% of his touches in 2021, collecting 19 touchdowns on 38 receptions.

Cook reports that UT presented the entire package for him and that is why he chose the Longhorns. "Everything," Cook said. "It feels like home. We got more than enough great trigger men."

Texas recently landed a commitment from the No. 1-rated QB in the nation and it played a role in Cook's decision-making process, but it was far from the leading factor.

"I definitely want to play with Arch, but I am definitely still on my own pitch," Cook explained. "Coach Sark is a freaking genius, man. he is going to get the guys the ball no matter what, if you run a 5.0 flat he is still going to find a way to get you the ball."

Cook will play in the Under Armour All-America Game.
