Welcome to the new age of college football.

North Texas linebacker KD Davis withdrew his name from the transfer portal to remain a member of the Mean Green for the 2022 season five days after entering. He took a visit to Texas A&M over the weekend and was also considering Ole Miss. Instead, Davis returns to anchor the Mean Green defense after posting 121 tackles in 2021. He is 97 stops short of breaking the all-time tackles record at North Texas.

Davis was named the Best Linebacker in Texas in the 2022 Dave Campbell’s Texas Football summer magazine. He was also a first-team all-defensive selection. His return is a boost for a North Texas program hoping to return to a bowl game and springboard into the American Athletic Conference after one final season in Conference USA. After losing defensive ends Gabriel and Grayson Murphy to the transfer portal after the season, the Mean Green simply couldn’t afford to lose Davis.
