Five-star running back Rueben Owens shocked the recruiting world with a Monday afternoon commitment to Louisville.

The El Campo product is ranked second on the DCTF Top 100. He is the top-ranked running back in the 2023 class and the 16th-ranked player in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Owens was one of the most coveted prospects in the nation. He held offers from 43 programs, including Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, and Texas A&M. He was a one-time pledge to the Texas Longhorns and took an official visit to TCU in June. Owens is Louisville’s 10th commitment of the 2023 cycle. The class ranks 11th in the nation and second in the ACC behind Clemson.

Owens arrived on the varsity scene as a freshman with Newcomer of Year honors in District 13-4A Division I in 2019. He was the District 12-4A Division I Offensive MVP as a sophomore and the Overall MVP as a junior last season after rushing for 2,989 yards and 46 touchdowns. He sits at 5,308 rushing yards and 76 touchdowns entering his senior season at El Campo.
