Amarillo Tascosa 2023 defensive end Avion Carter took an official visit to Fort Worth on Saturday and clearly, the Horned Frogs made a great impression. On Sunday, Carter verbally pledged his commitment to Sonny Dykes and company.

“I felt comfortable with the coaching staff, I loved it there,” said Carter. “My teammate Major Everheart is gonna be there and I like what they run. Everything just added up. Before we left I said ‘Coach Dykes, I want to commit.’”

The biggest factor in his decision was receiving the stamp of approval from his mother. When mom is on board, you know it's a good choice.

"My mother was excited," said Carter. "She was a big part of it. If she felt comfortable and I felt comfortable I knew something was going on there."

Carter announced his commitment on Twitter on Sunday morning. He chose TCU over the other three schools in his top four, which were Texas, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State. Arizona State was also heavily involved down the stretch before he chose the Horned Frogs.

He is ranked as the No. 25 overall prospect and the No. 4 defensive end in the DCTF 2023 rankings.

Last fall, Carter tallied 55 tackles, seven of them for loss, and eight sacks, which was enough for him to earn District 2-5A Defensive Player of the Year.

The 6-4, 240-pound pass rusher has a very unique skill-set. He has outstanding size and can couple that with elite speed off the line, making him a nightmare for any offensive lineman who he matches up with. His quick first step helps him explode into the backfield and wreak havoc on opposing running backs and quarterbacks.

Carter is the ninth player and the eighth Texas player to join the 2023 TCU recruiting class, and with his addition, the Horned Frogs are now ranked 15th in the country per 247 Sports. The ‘23 class is the first full class under Sonny Dykes and as one of the headliners, Carter realizes the importance.

“I think we’re going to be really special,” said Carter. “The 2022 class and the 2023 are going to be the ones to change the program in the coming years.”

For TCU fans who are curious about what they are getting in Avion Carter, look no further. The man himself has you covered.

“They’re getting an excellent pass-rusher and someone that is very disciplined,” said Carter. “I feel like I’m a big game-changer. I am very coachable and it’s crazy because I feel like I haven’t even hit my peak yet. I’m going to get bigger and stronger. They’re going to love me, man.”
