Few know the expectation level in Stephenville, Texas quite like Sterling Doty — he was, after all, a player on the Yellow Jackets’ third and fourth state championship squads in 1998 and 1999.
So when he took the job at his alma mater — and went a combined 12-11 in his first two seasons — the pressure was on. No matter: Doty rallied his squad to make all sorts of history in 2021, including the first 16-0 season since that 1999 title, and the program’s sixth state championship overall.
