Jasper ISD went with one of its own as the next athletid director and head football coach as Manvel offensive coordinator Kendrick Crumedy was approved by the school board to lead the Bulldogs football team and athletic program on Monday.

Crumedy, a 2003 graduate of Jasper High School, earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degree from Sam Houston State University. He’s only worked at Manvel High School where he was hired straight out of college in 2011 and he’s been at Manvel ever since, eventually earning the offensive coordinator title.

Crumedy has been a part of numerous Manvel teams that have made deep playoff runs including two state runner-up teams in 2011 and 2017.

The new Jasper head coach returns to his alma mater where Jasper has been successful in recent years, but despite plenty of talent the Bulldogs have lacked playoff success as JHS hasn’t won a third round playoff game since 2004 when they advanced to their only state title game in program history.

Coach Crumedy is a link to that Jasper past as his time at Jasper was at the start of the Bulldogs most successful run as a football program as the 2001 team advanced to the regional finals and the 2002 team, Crumedy’s senior season advanced to the state semifinals. Crumedy’s job is to bring that glory back to a town and community desperate to win their first state championship.
