ARLINGTON - This game deserved overtime, and that’s precisely what the fans inside AT&T Stadium were treated to Friday night as Jacob Brown scored the game-winning touchdown in the extra period to give Katy Paetow a 27-24 victory over College Station to win the Class 5A Division I UIL Football State Championship.

College Station was held to a field goal to open overtime before plenty of drama ensued.

Facing a 4th-and-inches near the 3-yard line, Paetow chose to go for it and quarterback C.J. Dumas was given the first down after a quarterback sneak. The play was reviewed and upheld, much to the dismay of the Cougars crowd.

That set up Brown’s state-clinching game-winner.

Katy Paetow had tried to keep a handle on the game with a forced fumble by DL K.J Truehill and DL Alex Kilgore in the third and capitalized on it with a Dumas 1-yard touchdown push. But College Station running back Marquise Collins sprinted for a game-tying 71-yard touchdown late in the fourth to set up the dramatics.

Things started fast with College Station scoring on its first drive of the game when Jett Huff found Traylen Suel, who would hoof it for an 80-yard touchdown.

Dumas spread the ball around to a plethora of receivers, mostly to Kole Wilson, who finished with 95 yards. Brown had 120 yards and the game winning touchdown. Wilson, Del Cid, Gene Kendall, and Dumas all combined for 71 yards and had a touchdown a piece.

The Paetow defense stood on its head all night long. DL Kilgore lead the team with 10 tackles and a fumble recovery. DB Kentrell Webb secured a vital interception and was second in tackles with nine earning him defensive MVP. DL Tyler Silves also had a sack.

Huff had 215 yards and a touchdown passing. Suel made things happen for him down field with 169 yards and a touchdown.

Collins was a big game threat with his 193 yards and the touchdown to send things to overtime.

DL Jaxon Slanker did his best to slow down the Paetow running game with a team-high 14 tackles.
