According to a news release Sunday morning, Abilene Christian announced they would part ways with head coach Adam Dorrel.

This season, the Wildcats finished 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the Western Athletic Conference after losing 35-9 to reigning national champion Sam Houston on Saturday.

Dorrel finishes his tenure with a 19-32 overall record in five seasons at ACU.

"As we strive to meet our objectives as a Division I program and a member of the Western Athletic Conference, we believe new leadership will benefit our football program and our university," ACU president Dr. Phil Schubert said. "I want to thank Adam for his service and dedication to Abilene Christian. We wish him and his family the very best in their future endeavors."

Dorrel was hired at the end of 2016 following ten highly successful seasons at NCAA Division II Northwest Missouri State. He compiled a 90-34 record and three national titles and won three AFCA DII Coach of the Year awards.

The school announced a nationwide search would begin immediately in the statement. The search for a new coach will be conducted under the incoming President for Athletics, Zack Lassiter, who officially begins his tenure on Dec. 1.
