2A DI Contender Coleman?

Coleman is quietly putting together a 7-0 season and just handled its most pressing game on the schedule with a 31-7 win over No. 5 Cisco Friday night. The Loboes had won 61 district gams in a row before the loss.

Two fumble recoveries in the first quarter led to the Cougars jumping out to a commanding lead and Coleman didn’t look back. With a District 4-2A DI crown firmly in their sights, are the Cougars a legit state threat? At this point, there’s no reason not to think so.

Maybe this dominant win helps them crack the Top 10 in the rankings as well.

Judson’s huge rebound win

It’s been a trying week for Converse Judson. The Rockets were 2-5 heading into Friday night and made a rare mid-season coaching change promoting offensive coordinator Joel Call to the  interim position.

With a playoff berth still within reach, but only barely, the struggling Judson upset No. 21 Smithson Valley, 33-32. It was a perfect pass from Michael Burroughs to Andre Jones that was the difference as the game winded down.

The Rockets are clinging to slim playoff hopes sitting in fifth place but only a game behind New Braunfels and San Antonio East Central with No. 17 Cibolo Steele and San Antonio Wagner left to play. They’ll need some help as well, but it’s tough to count the traditional San Antonio power out after last night.

San Marcos inches towards the playoffs

Realignment hasn’t been kind to the Rattlers. Getting placed in the Austin area’s gauntlet with Lake Travis and Westlake would intimidate any program in the state.

But, for the first time since 2017, San Marcos is within playoff reach following a huge 49-35 win over Austin Del Valle in which the Rattlers erased a 28-7 deficit at halftime.

“I will not let us not make the playoffs,” San Marcos head coach John Walsh said following the team’s opening-season loss to New Braunfels entering his second season heading the program. Now his Rattlers are a win or an Austin Akins loss away from clinching. Akins has Lake Travis coming up.
 

Three Players

Re’Shaun Sanford II, Harker Heights RB

The junior running back had 330 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries in the team’s 52-17 win over Killeen. The Knights continue to be the top team in the Killeen area at 7-1.

Keldric Luster, Frisco Liberty QB

Luster finished with an insane 570 total yards which included 282 yards passing, 258 on the ground and even 30 yards receiving in the Redhawks’ 53-28 win over Princeton.

Dario Bressler, Canyon RB

How about Canyon’s Dario Bressler running for 320 yards and adding another 95 receiving? He finished with EIGHT total touchdowns in the Eagles’ monster shootout win over Pampa, 75-60.
