Three Thoughts

Streaks Ending:

Shocked Undertaker Guy' meets The Undertaker at Wrestlemania, takes fantastic picture with him | For The Win

We had some major streaks end this past weekend. Most notably, No. 8 Allen’s unbeaten run inside Eagle Stadium and an 84-game regular season win streak ended against No. 5 Atascocita, 41-20. We’ll talk more about Atascocita QB Gavin Session in a bit, but the marquee win for the program out of Humble marked Allen’s first blemish in the regular season since 2012. Another streak that ended was Denton Ryan’s 60-game regular-season win streak againdt in-town rival Denton Guyer, 14-7 in overtime. According to the DMN, Ryan’s streak included 54 wins by double digits.

One more under-the-radar streak that was snapped was Irving High School’s 32-game losing streak in beating Dallas Molina, 35-34. It’s the Tigers’ first win since 2017.

Cuero is back

Since winning state in 2018, No. 10 Cuero’s been fighting to build back into a contender going 3-7 and 5-6 the past two seasons. But it’s clear to see why Jack Alvarez was lauded as a great hire to bring the program back as he has the Gobblers surging, this time with defense.

The No. 10 Gobblers shut down a high-powered No. 3 Wimberley offense, 21-3, and have allowed just 10 points through two games this season. Cuero picked off Wimberley QB Cash McCollum twice.

Timpson’s still legit

Last year, the Bears kind of came out of nowhere advancing all the way to the 2A DI state semifinals. This year, No. 3 Timpson’s picking up where it left off. In a game that was put together in just a few days, the third-ranked Bears handled the 3A DII No. 4 Waskom Wildcats, 49-28, thanks to explosive plays from star sophomore QB Terry Bussey.

Three Players

Bert Emanuel Jr. put on a show Thursday night for Fort Bend Ridge Point against Dickinson. The senior QB completed 14 of 21 for 172 yards and two scores and then ran for another 239 yards and three scores on the ground. Needless to say, we were impressed.

I said we’d talk about Atascocita QB Gavin Session some more. He finished with 300 yards passing and 16 rushes for 117 and five touchdowns total…against Allen…inside Eagle Stadium. Enough said.

Port Arthur Memorial QB Jahmar Sanders erupted against Barbers Hill for over 600 total yards. He threw for 446 yards and ran for 156 yards on 16 carries.

Three Plays

How about Mexia lining up the offense with time expiring and getting the game-winning score??

One of Gavin Session’s many big plays, but this one was all about Chase Sowell going UP.

Southlake Carroll looked sure to lose Thursday night against Rockwall-Heath, but the Dragons came back and BLOCKED a would-be game-winning field goal as time expired.
