It’s the 112th meeting between the longtime DeWitt County rivals. This game is one of those real cliché games where you can absolutely throw the records out the window, classifications out the window; nothing matters, this will be an absolute battle.

This year’s game has extra juice because both teams come into this one state ranked. Both teams put together superb defensive efforts in big wins last week. For Yoakum, the Bulldogs knocked off Cuero’s district rival Smithville, 27-3, as Yoakum’s defense allowed just 60-yards of offense on the night.

Cuero went on the road last week and knocked off third-ranked Wimberley in impressive fashion as the Gobblers took down the Texans, 21-3.

RB Tycen Williams led the way with 132 yards on the ground and two touchdowns, but the Gobblers defense was the story forcing three first half turnovers that completely changed the tenor of the game.

Cuero’s much better up front than they have been the past two years and that ability to be balanced on offense will be the difference in what will be a physical and low-scoring contest.

Stepp’s Pick: Cuero by 4
