A key value of any successful football team is accountability. If a player makes a mistake — misses a block, drops a pass, busts a coverage — it's critical that they acknowledge their error and work to ensure it doesn't happen again.

In that spirit, we here at Dave Campbell's Texas Football are owning up to our mistake, and pledging to make it right.

Last week, we rolled out a big update to the much-beloved Football Friday app — the undisputed king of apps for Texas high school football scores. We'd worked on this revamped version of the app for months, adding new features and streamlined processes. We were excited; we thought this was going to take an already great app and make it even better.

We were wrong.

We won't bore you with the technical details, but the most important thing is that the app didn't work at its basic function, which is to deliver hundreds of Texas high school football scores in real time. It lagged, it crashed, it bogged down and it failed. It wasn't up to our standards, and certainly not up to the standards of its users. As frustrated as you may have been trying to work the app, we were just as frustrated trying to get it back on track.

Being accountable matters, so here's some accountability: we screwed up, hard stop. We sincerely apologize to the Texas high school football fans we disappointed. We know we let you down. We hope you'll forgive us.

Here's how we're going to fix it:

Beginning today, we are bringing back the classic Football Friday app, the one you love. It's been fully updated with the 2021 schedules, and will work exactly like it used to. If you already have the app downloaded, there's an update for you in the Apple App Store or Google Play store that will restore the classic app. If you haven't downladed the app, you can on both Apple and Android devices.

We do need your help, though: because of the problems last week, the app does not have all the Week 1 scores loaded quite yet. So if you could, please, do what y'all do best: input the scores from your favorite team from Week 1. Knowing y'all, it'll be done in half a hearbeat.

We are going to continue to work behind the scenes to improve the Football Friday app in small ways, to make it an even better app. But the most important thing is that the app delivers you the scores you're looking for, and that you feel comfortable using it — two things we failed at with the new app. By bringing back the classic Football Friday app, we believe that's the best way to continue its standing as the best Texas high school football app out there.

At the end of the day, we here at Dave Campbell's Texas Football are Texas high school football fans like you, and we're committed to bringing you the quality of coverage that you deserve. We came up short on this play; but we're going to learn from it, and make sure we get the next play right.
