Regional Outlook

It’s been Falls City’s world the past three years in Region IV as the Beavers will try and make it a four-peat in Region IV, but the competition from the Concho Valley will be challenging once again for FCHS.

Snook is a fast-rising program and after a trip to the regional semifinals a year ago, combined with seven returning starters, the Blue Jays come in as the favorite in 13-2A Division II. Granger with fifteen starters and Burton with seventeen starters back from playoff teams in 2020. Somerville and Iola will be locked in a tight battle for the district’s final playoff spot.

A year ago Christoval powered into the statewide rankings and made a run all the way to the regional finals before falling to Falls City in a close game, the Cougars return seventeen starters but will have to hold off a big challenge from up and coming Eldorado who brings back nineteen starters from a team that had to forfeit their area round playoff game due to Covid protocols. Miles, Rocksprings and Junction will be in the mix for the district’s last two playoff spots.

D’Hanis and their unique tradition of playing home games on Saturday nights seems to work to the Cowboys advantage in most years and they come into the season as the odds on favorite in 15-2A Division I. Things get much murkier after that with LaPryor, Bruni and Charlotte all on paper looking evenly matched, even winless Benavides expects to be much improved in 2021.

Falls City is still the team to beat in 16-2A Division II, but Yorktown who brings back eight starters on both sides of the ball from an area round playoff team will be a tough contender inside of the loop. The race for the final two playoff spots will be hotly contested between the remaining five teams in the district, all of whom return a significant number of key contributors from a year ago.
