After a highly successful run leading Hamlin, Russell Lucas departed in late March to take over at Class 4A Sweetwater.

Hamlin found their guy on Monday as Wheeler head coach Chris Evans was hired to be Hamlin’s new AD/HFC.

Evans posted a strong 33-16 overall record in four seasons leading the Mustangs. He previously served as an assistant at San Angelo Lake View before moving to the panhandle to take the job at Wheeler.

Evans will remain at Wheeler through the end of track season before fully transitioning to Hamlin as Coach Evans serves as Wheeler’s head track coach.
