Texas bolstered its linebacker room on Monday with the addition of former 5-star linebacker Ben Davis via Alabama. Davis will be immediately eligible for the 2021 season.

Davis was rated the No. 1 linebacker and No. 10 player overall in the class of 2016. His last two seasons on campus in Tuscaloosa, Davis primarily worked as a pass rusher. The senior played 24 games for Alabama and posted seven total tackles and one sack.

In addition, the Longhorns added a commitment from former New Mexico State linebacker Devin Richardsonon Sunday. He earned a spot on the FWAA Freshman All-America team after posting 69 tackles, three TFLs, two sacks and three forced fumbles. Richardson has three years of eligibility.

The Longhorns have hit the linebacker market exceptionally hard since Steve Sarkisian got on campus. Texas also added Notre Dame LB Ovi Oghoufo and LSU LB Ray Thornton via the transfer portal over the offseason. The Longhorns needed to shore up the position after losing All-American Joseph Ossai to the draft and Ayodele Adeoye to the transfer portal.
