UTEP football will be forced to serve one-year of probation and levy a handful of other penalties after turning in minor NCAA violations.

The NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions allege that off-field staffers – quality control coaches on both offense and defense – provided instruction during practices between 2018 and spring 2020. Officially, that means UTEP exceeded the 10 allowable on-field assistant coaches on-field for those years.

In addition to serving one year of probation, UTEP will pay a $5,000 fine. UTEP head coach Dana Dimel will have a one-year show-cause order and will be suspended four days from coaching and 10 days of off-campus recruiting during the contact period. UTEP must also be without one allowable coach for six days of practice in 2021-22.

UTEP softball was also hit with similar penalties after a former head coach held excess practice time and went over allowable hours. The former softball coach will face a one-year show-cause and game suspensions at their next stop.

The case was presented through the "negotiated resolution practice," as none of the parties involved protested thte allegations.
