Former Houston, Mart LB Zamar Kirven charged with capital murder

Former Houston football linebacker Zamar Kirven, 21, was arrested and charged with capital murder in connection with a double-homicide, according to KWTX

The alleged shooting happened at 2 a.m. on Saturday in Mart. Both victims in the case were former Texas high school football players from the area. Sabion Kubitza, 22, played high school footbal at Riesel. Jacob Ybarra, 20, played high school football at Mart.

Kirven knew both victims from playing high school football together, per McLennan County sheriff Parnell McNamara. 

Kirven joined Houston in 2018 as a linebacker from Mart. He played three seasons with the team before being dismissed for a violation of team rules in December 2020. Kirven played in 20 games as a member of the Cougars, starting five games as a sophomore.
