Joseph Wallace, DT, SHSU

Sam Houston secured the Southland Conference title outright last Saturday thanks to its stout defense.

Defensive tackle Joseph Wallace was a huge part of the defense last week with five solo tackles and three tackles for loss.

The Texas Tech transfer from Dallas also provided the essential play to secure the victory for the Kats when he forced McNeese quarterback Cody Orgeron to fumble at the Kats one-yard line with the Cowboys trying to pull within one score late in the fourth quarter.

Robert Ferrel, WR, UIW

UIW wide receiver Robert Ferrel had the best day of his Cardinals career last Saturday with seven receptions for 144 yards and one touchdown.

The El Camino product from Reno, Nevada, produced a highlight reel play for the Cardinals first touchdown of the game taking a reverse pitch 23 yards for a touchdown while absorbing a massive hit at the end.

Jamal Long, WR, SAGU

Southwestern Assemblies of God University wide receiver Jamal Long had a career day against Oklahoma Panhandle State last Saturday.

The freshman from Hillsboro, Texas, caught six passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns.

Long showed incredible concentration on his first touchdown reception, securing the ball and racing for a 72-yard touchdown to push the Lions back into the lead.

Kenneith Lacy, RB, Kilgore

Kilgore freshman running back Kenneith Lacy sure enjoyed the home cooking last week.

The Kilgore High School product carried the ball 15 times for 158 yards and a touchdown in the Rangers 34-23 win over New Mexico Military Institute.

Lacy’s first carry of the game produced the Rangers first touchdown as he raced 82 yards for the score.

Lacy was a considerable part of Kilgore’s four-minute offense gaining 30 yards on five carries to help the Rangers protect the lead and secure the victory.
