Each week Dave Campbell’s Texas Football staff gives their power rankings of the small college football teams in Texas.

Note: Teams are measured against the overall strength of their conference. Only teams that have played are ranked.

1. Sam Houston (3-0) Last Week: 1 - The Kats are in a position to run the table and win the Southland title outright. Could a run to the FCS title game be far behind? NEXT: at Northwestern State at 6 p.m. April 1.

2. Hardin-Simmons (4-0) Last Week: 2 - The Cowboys did their part to set up a showdown with rival UMHB for the American Southwest Conference title this week. NEXT: vs Mary Hardin-Baylor at 1 p.m. Mar. 27.

3. Mary Hardin-Baylor (4-0) Last Week: 3 - The offense came to life last week with the insertion of Kyle King at quarterback. Who will start at QB this week? Do we have a controversy to watch heading to the fall? NEXT: at Hardin-Simmons at 1 p.m. Mar. 27.

4. UIW (3-0) Last Week: 4 - The Cardinals keep rolling and can put up points with anyone in the country. The UIW defense will face its most significant challenge to date against the physical Colonels. NEXT: at Nicholls at 11 a.m. Mar. 27.

5. Texas Lutheran (3-1) Last Week: 6 - It has been a good spring for TLU and coach Ricky Matt. A road win this week would send the Bulldogs into the fall season with plenty of momentum. NEXT: at East Texas Baptist at 1 p.m. Mar. 27.

6. Tarleton (4-2) Last Week: 7 - The Texans have won three straight with no sign of stopping any time soon. Tarleton hosts the final two games of the spring against Division II opponents. NEXT: vs Northeastern State at 6 p.m. Mar. 27.

7. Midwestern State (1-1) Last Week: 5 - MSU did not fall in the rankings because of the loss to Tarleton. The Mustangs fell because of a non-existent rushing attack which is usually the strength of a Bill Maskill coached team. NEXT: at UTPB at 1 p.m. Mar. 27.

8. Trinity (3-1) Last Week: 8 - The Tigers finished their spring season with a resounding 38-15 win over Birmingham Southern. Trinity could be dangerous in the fall. NEXT: Fall 2021 season.

9. UTPB (4-0) Last Week: 11 - The defense has been tremendous this spring, allowing 10.5 points per game. Can the Falcons take the next step this week and set more program firsts against an LSC opponent? NEXT: vs Midwestern State at 1 p.m. Mar. 27.

10. Southwestern Assemblies of God (2-0) Last Week: 9 - Excitement abounds in Waxahachie with the men’s basketball team in the national semifinals and the Lions hosting the No. 24 team in the country. NEXT: vs Arizona Christian at noon Mar. 27.

11. East Texas Baptist (2-2) Last Week: 10 - ETBU started strong with two wins this spring but have struggled recently with two consecutive losses. Can the Tigers rebound this week against a tough team?  NEXT: vs Texas Lutheran at 1 p.m. Mar. 27.

12. Howard Payne (2-2) Last Week: 13 - A balanced offensive attack led HPU to a convincing home win and an excellent chance to end the spring with a winning streak. NEXT: vs Belhaven at 1 p.m. Mar. 27.

13. Prairie View A&M (2-0) Last Week: 12 - The Panthers have paused all football activities, which shifted the remaining spring schedule for PVAMU. NEXT: vs Alabama A&M at 2 p.m. April 3.

14. Wayland Baptist (2-2) Last Week 14 - WBU begins a brutal stretch over the next three weeks to end the Pioneers spring schedule. The most challenging opponent is this week. NEXT: at Ottawa (Ariz.) at noon Mar. 27.

15. Austin College (1-3) Last Week: 15 - The ‘Roos had one of the most challenging spring schedules of any team in the country. Austin College will focus on playing a complete game for the fall. NEXT: Fall 2021 season.

16. Lamar (1-3) Last Week: 16 - The Cardinals were simply outmanned against Sam Houston last week. Lamar has a chance to get back in the win column this week. NEXT: vs Northwestern State at 3 p.m. Mar. 27.

17. McMurry (1-3) Last Week: 19 - The schedule has not been favorable for the War Hawks this spring, and this week provides another challenging opponent to end the season. NEXT: at Louisiana College at 1 p.m. Mar. 27.

18. Texas Southern (0-2) Last Week: 17 - The Tigers started well against Southern last week, but 21 unanswered points in the middle of the game proved to be too much to overcome. NEXT: vs Grambling at 7 p.m. April 3.

19. Texas A&M-Kingsville (0-2) Last Week: 20 - Coach Mike Salinas and staff found some positives and negatives during the Javelinas abbreviated spring season. TAMUK will try to build on the positives for the fall season. NEXT: Fall 2021 season.

20. Southwestern (0-4) Last Week: 18 - The Pirates offense was better last week, but big plays and special teams kept SU from earning its first win of the spring. NEXT: at Sul Ross State at 11 a.m. Mar. 27.

21. Sul Ross State (0-4) Last Week: 21 - It has been a rough spring against a bevy of good opponents for the Lobos. This week provides an opportunity to end on a positive note. NEXT: vs Southwestern at 11 a.m. Mar. 27.
