Each week Dave Campbell’s Texas Football staff gives their power rankings of the small college football teams in Texas.

Note: Teams are measured against the overall strength of their conference. Only teams that have played are ranked.

1. Mary Hardin-Baylor (2-0) Last Week: 1 - UMHB dominated the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball in another impressive performance last week with linebacker Akeem Jackson leading the charge. NEXT: at East Texas Baptist at 1 p.m. Mar. 6.

2. Sam Houston (1-0) Last Week: NR - The Bearkats finally opened its season with the most entertaining game of the weekend and an impressive victory over a solid team. NEXT: vs No. 9 Nicholls at noon Mar. 13.

3. Hardin-Simmons (1-0) Last Week: NR - The Cowboys slot in at No. 3 this week after securing the Wilford Moore Trophy with a dominant win over crosstown rival McMurry. NEXT: vs Texas Lutheran at 1 p.m. Mar 6.

4. Trinity (2-0) Last Week: 2 - The Tigers fall in the poll is due to some teams finally playing their first game of the spring season. The Tigers can make another statement this week. NEXT: vs Hendrix at 10 a.m. Mar. 6.

5. Texas Lutheran (2-0) Last Week: 5 - The TLU defense was stout last week and the Bulldogs run game was efficient. They will need everything to click to pull off a road upset this week. NEXT: at Hardin-Simmons at 1 p.m. Mar 6.

6. UIW (1-0) Last Week: NR - The Cardinals answered a lot of questions with an impressive road win. Junior Ce’Cori Tolds may be the best kick returner in the country regardless of level. NEXT: at Lamar at 3 p.m. Mar 6.

7. Tarleton (1-2) Last Week: 2 - Are the Texans the team that nearly defeated McNeese and dominated an FBS team or the team that turned the ball over five times in a home loss last Saturday? We await the answer. NEXT: vs Mississippi College at 2 p.m. Mar 6.

8. UTPB (1-0) Last Week: NR - The Falcons opened its spring with a nice win at home while Clayton Roberts tied the single-game program record for touchdown passes. NEXT: vs Lincoln (Mo.) at 1 p.m. Mar. 6.

9. Howard Payne (0-1) Last Week: 6 - This Saturday may feel like the first game of the spring once again for the Yellow Jackets after a three week layoff. NEXT: at Sul Ross State at 1 p.m. Mar. 6.

10. East Texas Baptist (2-1) Last Week: 4 - The Tigers did not play well on either side of the ball in a surprise road loss last week. Was ETBU guilty of looking ahead to this week’s big game? NEXT: vs Mary Hardin-Baylor at 1 p.m. Mar. 6.

11. Wayland Baptist (2-2) Last Week 9 - The WBU defense was impressive holding Lyon College to 191 total yards in a shutout win at home. The Pioneers now have three weeks before their next game. NEXT: at Ottawa (Ariz.) at noon Mar. 27.

12. Austin College (0-2) Last Week: 7 - Austin College once again held an early lead but Hendrix quarterback Tyler James led his team to 35 unanswered points in the second and third quarters. The ‘Roos have a solid shot at winning this week. NEXT: vs Millsaps at noon Mar. 6.

13. Southwestern (0-2) Last Week: 8 - The Pirates are a young team who have played two of the top teams in the conference. Their remaining spring schedule should be easier to navigate. NEXT: at Louisiana College at 1 p.m. Mar. 13.

14. McMurry (1-1) Last Week: 10 - The bad news is another loss to crosstown rival Hardin-Simmons. The good news is obvious improvement under coach Jordan Neal after losing the prior two games to HSU by an average of 69.5 points. NEXT: at Texas Lutheran at 2 p.m. Mar. 13.

15. Sul Ross State (0-2) Last Week: 11 - The Lobos struggled to move the ball or stop the run against Texas Lutheran last week. SRSU will finally have its first home game of the spring this week. NEXT: vs Howard Payne at 1 p.m. Mar. 6.

16. Lamar (0-1) Last Week: NR - The Blane Morgan era got off to a rough start on the road against No. 9 Nicholls. The Cardinals are young and will struggle in the near future as Morgan builds the program. NEXT: vs UIW at 3 p.m. Mar. 6.
